For ages 14 to adults

 $150

Tuesdays, 6:00 - 8:30PM

September 13, 20, and October 4, 11,18, & 25, 2022

All levels welcome.

The students decide on their subject matter, and I will be giving them one on one individual instruction on their paintings. If the student isn’t sure what they would like to paint, I’ll have some reference photos available. I will be teaching traditional painting techniques such as blending, scumbling and glazing while encouraging the student to accomplish their own artistic vision. There will be occasional group discussion on materials, techniques and I will be doing some painting demonstrations.

Molly Sims Oil painting class / Supply List

Oil Paint Titanium white, Cadmium yellow light, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium red medium, Alizarin

crimson, French Ultramarine blue, Thalo Blue, Sap green, Burnt sienna or Terra rosa, raw umber

and Ivory black. Artist grade paint works best, Gamblin and M.Graham are good brands.

Gamblin1980 has an affordable starter set. You can find it at Michaels and online at dickblick.com

DO NOT buy Artist Loft paint from Michaels which hardly contains any pigment.

Palette- Wood or plastic is fine. Make sure it’s large enough to have room for mixing paint.

Painting surface- Canvas Panels, Stretched Canvas, or Hardboard. I like Ambersand gessoboard.

Paper towels or rags- Viva paper towels work great.

Brushes- Bring any you have. A small soft round brush for details. Larger bristle filberts or flats in

sizes 4, 6 or 8 and 10 would be a good start. Robert Simmons, Winsor & Newton, Blick

Masterstroke are good brands. One soft blending brush sable or synthetic, a flat or filbert about size

6, and small round brush size #0 or #1 for detail.

Medium- Liquin is a medium for thinning oil colors and speeds drying time. It also helps in glazing

and fine detail, you can also use linseed oil or oleogel from Rublev

Odorless turpenoid- It can be used for painting and cleanup. Gamsol is another good product for

cleanup.

No regular turpentine is allowed in the room – It’s toxic.

Pencils and paper or sketchpad- You may want this to draw out your composition first.

Table easel- Optional This works well to use when sitting at a table to paint. I do have a few extra

easels available.
